A fully serviced residence where comfort disappears into detail
The Hidden Apartment
The challenge of this Rotterdam residence was not simply to create another high-end apartment, but to design a home for a client accustomed to exceptional places around the world. Given complete creative freedom, Kolenik set out to create an interior that felt deeply personal, quietly refined and full of subtle surprises—where technology and craftsmanship reveal themselves only when needed.
Completed within just five months, the existing layout was entirely reimagined. A former guest room became the new master suite, requiring the apartment to be reconfigured around privacy and experience. The master area was designed as a secluded retreat, while guests enjoy their own dedicated wing with direct access to a private wellness area.
The living space captures the essence of the project. A sculptural fireplace clad in rounded Portoro marble conceals an Alchimia television that disappears completely when not in use. Nearby, a hidden bar emerges from behind a timber wall at the touch of a button, illuminated by softly glowing alabaster. These concealed elements create moments of discovery while allowing the interior to remain calm and timeless in everyday life.
The material palette introduces warmth and depth through walnut, richly veined marble and sculptural stone detailing. In the master suite, bespoke Salvatori stonework culminates in a monolithic circular shower base, transforming a functional element into an architectural statement. Above the bed, Studio Drift's Fragile Future installation introduces an ethereal counterpoint to the robust natural materials.
The wellness area continues this balance of innovation and comfort. A concealed pivot door leads to the hammam, where backlit alabaster creates a tranquil atmosphere. Integrated infrared heating within the solid stone bench ensures exceptional comfort without compromising the purity of the design.
For Kolenik, the project ultimately reflects a simple belief: true luxury is not defined by what is immediately visible, but by craftsmanship, thoughtful innovation and the quiet details that continue to surprise over time.
